Spot: A Sea Pup’s Survival Guide

I came across a wonderful book by Laura Knight, the founder of The Friendly Planet Club who had just published her first book called ‘Spot: A Sea Pup’s Survival Guide‘ which can be bought from Amazon.

The art of storytelling has always been Laura’s passion, hoping to inspire children to ‘be your best’ through heroic and unforgettable characters. She spent 15+ years as an accomplished Art Director in the toy industry, managing many popular children’s brands…yet, her fascination and appreciation for our planet was reignited after a visit to a Marine Mammal Rescue Center, where she witnessed the rehabilitation of a sea lion that was injured by ocean pollution.

The book is about a seal pup who finds the seas being affected by human activities. The main story is told with rhyming words. It includes a charming main character with an important lesson in ecology. Book features vibrant, playful illustrations, ocean photography & facts.

I find that this is a really wonderful book to teach about pollution in the seas and why we must protect the oceans for our future generations by focusing on education. Check out Laura’s amazing work at Friendly Planet Club!

How to Inspire the Love of Reading in Your Children?

Reading is wonderful.  Books can take you to worlds you never dreamed of, meet interesting people and even help you learn a little bit about yourself.  Books inspire us to seek out a world other than our own.  We hope our children love reading as much as we do.  But how do we inspire the love of reading to your children?

Read to them as early as you can.  Even when they are born.  There is something soothing like curling up against your parents and listening to them read to you.

Improvise with story-telling.  Use elements within the story to create more personalized tales which the kids can relate to within the family or amongst their friends.

Make books easily accessible.  Keep them all around the house, not just in their playroom.  Put them in the living room, bathroom and even the kitchen.  Bring them with you just in case you have some down time to read.

Keep screens away during reading time.  Studies have shown that having  excessive access to mobile devices such as phones or tablets reduces the attention span. That’s why many parents are moving back to traditional books.

Choose books that interest them.  Here at Amazing Fables, we put your child right into the story, making it much easier for them to connect to the story.  They can begin to use their imagination and they become interested in what comes next in their story.  They love these customize name books.

Charles Darwin and The Theory of Evolution

Are there any children’s books which teach about Charles Darwin and the Theory of Evolution? How do you reconcile that with Creationism when teaching your kids?

I use this particular book by Amazing Fables on ‘How Did Life Begin’?. It is simple and intuitive without going too much into brainwashing that one theory is superior to the other. A hero (boy or girl) goes exploring with Darwin himself via a simple time machine.

To answer your question, use a narrative to show incremental changes in life over time as part of irrefutable evolution, but offer two thoughts which might conflict or complement each other. Perhaps offer two points of view such as a higher intelligence sparking a point of origin vs a random walk in terms of how life emerged as is.

The book below doesn’t claim God did or did not create life, but rather focuses on how life changed over time as part of evolution.

Explore a world with Charles Darwin and learn how life evolved over time. 42 high quality Mohawk printed pages, this is one of the best personalized children’s books you can find.
